PRESCHOOL
The weekday Kindergarten program of FUMC Brandon seeks to meet the needs of children ages 3, 4, and 5 years old in the church and community by offering early childhood education in a Christian environment regardless of race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
The hours are 9:00am-12:00pm. Promptness and regular attendance are encouraged. However, when children are ill we expect them to stay home. A certificate of health is required of all children and can be acquired from the Health Department or your family physician. Also a copy of the child’s birth certificate will be needed. The children do bring their own snack (something to eat and drink) to school.
Our classes work on many readiness skills including large and small motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Chapel and outdoor times are also integral parts of our program. Social behavior is most important in laying a good foundation for learning. When your child leaves our program, our desire is that he/she leaves with a good self-image fostering their self-confidence so that they may continue to learn in the years ahead.
On Wednesdays, an extended playground time is provided until 1:30 for children enrolled in the 3, 4, & 5 year old classes.
FIVE-YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN: Children should be 5 by September 1st. These children are scheduled to come every day, Monday-Friday, and are eligible to go into public or private school for first grade. Lippincott Beginning to Read, Write and Listen is the language development program used. Math, Science, Art, Music, and Social Studies are also included in their program.
FOUR-YEAR-OLD PROGRAM: Children should be 4 by September 1st. These children come to either the 5-day (M-F) or 3-day (M-W-F) per week program. A unit on Children Around the World is a highlight of the winter months. Math, Science, Art, Music, Language Development, Alphabet Recognition and many readiness skills are also incorporated into the program.
THREE-YEAR-OLD PROGRAM: Children should be 3 by September 1st, and fully potty-trained. These children come 3 days a week (M-W-F) or 2 days a week (T-TH). This is a first-time experience for most children and we strive to make it a pleasant one for each child. Classes will be learning about umbers, shapes, colors, animals, transportation, the community, cooking, and much more.
