The weekday preschool/kindergarten program of First UMC Brandon has been meeting the needs of children in the church and community for more than 45 years by offering early childhood education in a loving, warm Christian environment.
TWO-YEAR-OLD PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: Children should be 2 by September 1st. Children may come 2 or 3 days a week (M-W-F) from 9:00 – 12:30. This is a first-time experience for many children and we strive to make it a pleasant, happy one for each child. A smooth transition from the care of a parent to the care of a teacher is important to us.
THREE-YEAR-OLD PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: Children should be 3 by September 1st and fully potty-trained. Children may come 3 days a week (M-W-F) or 5 days a week, from 9:00 – 12:30. The classes learn about numbers, shapes, colors, animals, transportation, the community, cooking and much more. Developing social skills is also an important aspect of preschool at this level.
FOUR-YEAR-OLD PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: Children should be 4 by September 1st. Our 4-year-old program is part of the State Funded VPK Program so there is no monthly tuition for a portion of their school year. Children come every day, Monday-Friday from 9:00–12:45. The language development program is designed to incorporate alphabet, art, math, science and many readiness skills. Music and outdoor play are also incorporated into the program.
FIVE-YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM: Children should be 5 by September 1st. Kindergarteners come every day, Monday-Friday from 9:00-12:45 and are eligible to enter into public or private school for 1st grade. This half-day kindergarten program includes reading, developmental writing, math, science, art, music and social studies.
Lippincott Beginning to Read, Write and Listen is the primary language development curriculum used.
ALL CHILDREN WILL PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS: Working with paints, clay, crayons, blocks and other manipulative materials. Making short excursions to points of interest (4- and 5-year-old classes). Enjoying stories, poetry, drama, films and books. Learning to share, take turns, plan, work, think, and reason as he/she plays with others. Learning to respond rhythmically to music, singing new songs, and listening to different kinds of music. Acquiring good health and hygiene habits. Experiencing and learning foundational truths of the Christian faith.
Our classes work on many academic readiness skills including large and small motor skills, and eye-hand coordination. Chapel, outdoor time and the arts are also integral parts of the program. In addition, we strive to teach appropriate social skills, build self-confidence and lay the foundation for success in the years ahead.
Promptness and regular attendance is encouraged at all age levels. However, when children are ill, we ask that you keep them at home. A Certificate of Health is required of all children and can be obtained from your family physician or the Health Department. A copy of your child’s birth certificate is also required upon registration. Children do need to bring their own lunch which should include something to eat and drink.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES OFFERED:

The Bible tells us that “Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and Man” and our goal is to help children grow as Jesus grew as we “Make more and better Disciples”.
