Name: Janeen Dougherty

Position: Technical Arts Assistant

How I became a Christian:
I grew up going to church and believed at a very young age in Jesus.

How I ended up at FUMC Brandon: My parents moved from Michigan and settled in Brandon.  They looked for a Methodist Church and found 1st UMC in Brandon

The most important thing I do around here is:
I prepare Computer Graphic scripts and cue sheets for the technical volunteers who do all the behind the scenes work to help each service run smoothly.

Education: I have completed 3 years of college at USF.  I also had training at LifeCare of Brandon where I volunteered.

Family facts:  I have been married to my wonderful husband, Jim, for 34 years.  I have 2 boys, James, who is 20 years old and Jonathan, who is 16 years old.  We have a beautiful cat named Delilah who keeps us on our toes.

How I spend my free time: I help teach the 6th grade Confirmation class, volunteer in Student Ministry on Wednesday and Sunday nights, help with the Chapel service Sunday mornings doing CG and other assorted duties there.  I am in a small group on Monday night, in Creative Concerns UMW Circle, and volunteer at "I AM Hope Cafe'".  I love to read, play computer games, playing interactive games on the Wii, make crafts and when there is time, I love to scuba dive.

Where I’ve lived besides Brandon:
Detroit, Michigan, where I was born.

Something else that’s interesting about me: I enjoy traveling.  I have gotten the opportunity to travel while being involved with the youth.  I have gone on Mission trips to: Monroe, Louisiana; Manassas, Virginia; St. Petersburg, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; and Beaufort and Charleston, South Carolina over the past 7 years and helped in many communities.  We have renovated playgrounds, organized and helped in food pantries, helped people in need with work in their houses and around their yards, cared for the elderly and interacted with special needs children.  It is amazing how much you learn and grow during this short period of time.  You build a closer relationship with our youth and other youth and adults from different parts of the country.  You eat, sleep and work beside them.  Even more, you develop a deeper relationship and understanding with God, You can see God working at the different cites and how He helps accomplish things you never thought possible.  We have used vans, cars and trains as transportation to our destinations.  Each time has been an experience in itself.  It has stretched me as a person and definitely gotten me out of my comfort zone. I thank God each day for all He does for me, in me and through me.
